How to Play: Strategist

How to Play

The Strategist

Strategists are tasked with maximising the power of their faction. Like the Treasurer, they are focused on resource management, however they have a level of difficulty in that the final power of assets is dependent on the outcome of votes and the unfolding of the story. A Strategist has to pay attention to the plot and make bets. A difficult role... but if played right can easily swing the game to your team's favour.

Each player is granted a starting asset with an amount of power associated with it. Whilst players can use/trade their assets as they wish, the Strategist can provide direction and convince their faction mates to make smart trades, often by considering how they believe the outcome of the game will affect each assets value.

We recommend the Strategist role for those looking to develop their resource management skillset and the ability to argue for a strategic direction within a team environment. The goals of the role is naturally contrary to the goals of the Treasurer, requiring a degree of compromise. Failing to account to achieve this will pull the team apart and hinder their ability to win.

Our top strategies for dominating the Murder Game as a Strategist

The Collector

Collector's focus on quantity not quality, trying to hover up as many assets as possible from other teams, trying to purchase them at the lowest price possible, or trading initially high-value assets with multiple lower-value assets, hoping for an upside that will carry their team to victory.

The Hoarder

A more cautious hoarding strategist will make few trades, seeking to protect what they have, but make them matter when they do. They will research their current assets and try and deduce which will drop in value, before off-loading them to an unsuspecting team.
